Metropolitan Police: The Divisions

The division is the basic unit of policing in the Metropolitan Police. The 23 divisions are grouped into four districts, all administered from Scotland Yard, where the district chief constables (and deputy assistant commissioners from 1933) and their staffs have their offices.

The following is a list of each division with its usual name (in parentheses) and its constituent police stations. The divisional headquarters, where the superintendent, chief inspectors and divisional detective inspector have their offices, is the first station listed in each division. Its day-to-day functions as a police station are, however, headed by a sub-divisional inspector. Other stations are commanded by sub-divisional inspectors, inspectors or station sergeants depending on their size.
